Havana, Nov 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero on Sunday sent congratulations to television workers on the occasion of the World Television Day.

On his official Twitter account, the head of Government also recalled that the commemoration was proclaimed on November 21, 1996, by the United Nations General Assembly.

All UN member States are invited to observe the day by encouraging global exchanges of television programs concerning issues such as peace, security, economic and social development and cultural exchange.

Television is recognized as an important tool for guiding, channeling and mobilizing public opinion.

Cuba, along with Brazil, Argentina and Mexico, was one of the first Latin American countries to introduce the television broadcast system. It began broadcasting on October 24, 1950.
