President Miguel Díaz-Canel urged to accelerate the anti-Covid-19 vaccination campaign that Cuba is promoting today, with the purpose of inoculating the entire population with the first dose of national immunogens in September.

According to national television, the Cuban head of state highlighted the favorable development of the epidemiological scenario in the provinces of Havana, Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Ciego de Ávila and Santiago de Cuba, partly due to the progress of this process.

At a meeting of the Government's temporary work group to confront the new coronavirus, held on Saturday, the Minister of Public Health José Ángel Portal reported that eight million 813 thousand 982 people have received so far at least one dose of the national vaccines against the Covid-19.

The figure represents 78.8 percent of the total population, estimated to be vaccinated; while those who reached the second are 54.2 percent; and 43.5 percent already have the third dose.

Cuba also began vaccination against Covid-19 in those allergic to thiomersal, as well as in convalescent adults from the disease, in order to achieve the prompt total immunization of its population.

At the same time, intervention began for the elderly convalescing from Covid-19, with less than two months of having suffered the disease, to whom a single dose of Soberana Plus is administered.

The country aspires to inoculate all its citizens against Covid-19 with its own immunogens this year, for which it is promoting a national vaccination campaign that includes people of pediatric age.
