Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel held a meeting here today with Turkish businessmen during a transit stopover on his return trip after an international tour of Africa, Asia and Europe.

The meeting was attended by businessmen convened by DEIK, a business diplomacy organization that leads foreign economic relations of the Turkish private sector, according to the Presidency of the Republic of Cuba on Twitter.

The message added that the purpose of the meeting is to promote ideas and boost the relationship between Turkish businessmen and Cuba.

Among the members of the delegation that participated in the meeting was the Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, who pointed out that the Mariel Special Development Zone, in the west of the island, aims to become the main forum for attracting foreign investment.

He explained the characteristics of the portfolio of opportunities and its potentialities for the foreign investment sector.

This meeting puts an end to the international tour of the Cuban president which took place from November 16 to 25 with a program designed to respond to the priorities of the country, the efforts to alleviate the effects of the post-pandemic crisis and to face the effects of the US blockade.

The delegation that accompanied him was made up of several ministers and officials from key sectors of the national economy and had an intense cycle of dialogues and signing of agreements in Algeria, Russia, Turkey and China.
