Havana, July 5 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Tuesday conveyed congratulations to the people and government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on the occasion of the 211th anniversary of the signing of that nation's Independence Act.

On his official twitter account, the president said "we greet with deep respect and shared emotion, the 211th anniversary of the inspiring declaration of Independence of Venezuela.

He also added "to brother Nicolás Maduro and the beloved Venezuelan people, our embrace and congratulations!".

Other leaders also expressed their congratulations to the South American nation on Tuesday, such as Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, who also on Twitter pointed out that the date "marked a historic milestone in the conquest of freedom and sovereignty of Our America and constitutes today a permanent commitment of struggle".

Likewise, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out in a tweet that "marked by the feelings of brotherhood and solidarity that unite both peoples and governments, we ratify our will to strengthen the bonds of cooperation".

In that historic document, representatives of seven of the ten provinces belonging to the then General Captaincy of Venezuela, gathered in the Santa Rosa de Lima Chapel, in the city of Caracas, declared on July 5, 1811 their independence from Spain.

With this, they established a new nation based on republican and federal principles, abolishing the monarchy under the values of equality of individuals, freedom of expression and the prohibition of censorship.

The declaration represents the first case of a Spanish colony in the Americas declaring full independence.
