Havana, Oct 3 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Monday congratulated Granma newspaper on the 57th anniversary of its foundation, which coincided with the creation of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC).

On his Twitter account, the head of State described this date as “a significant day in a month as memorable as October.

On October 3, 1965, the first “Central Committee” of the Communist Party was founded.

In this regard, he pointed out that “for 57 years it has been the main medium of information and daily guidance in Cuba. Congratulations.”

Precisely on Monday, the newspaper recalled that the PCC “resulted from the three main forces that enlightened the nation with the triumph of the Revolution in January 1959: the 26th of July Movement, the 13th of March Revolutionary Directorate, and the People’s Socialist Party.”

It added that these organizations “by virtue of the unitary will, merged in 1961 under the leadership of Fidel, in the Integrated Revolutionary Organizations (ORI), the precedent of the subsequent restructuring and construction, the following year, of the United Party of the Socialist Revolution of Cuba (PURS).

Then, in October 1965, the first Central Committee of the Party was founded, which, on the same night of October 3, was named Communist Party of Cuba,” Granma reported
