Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Sunday congratulated a group of Cuban artists and intellectuals who were awarded with the Alejo Carpentier Medal for their contributions to national culture.

In his Twitter account, the president publicly congratulated writers Nancy Morejon and Reinaldo Gonzalez, as well as essayists Victor Fowler and Enrique Ubieta.

He also recognized the work of filmmaker Víctor Casaus and actors Osvaldo Doimeadios, Carlos Benito Padron, Corina Mestre, Amada Morado and Diana Rosa Suarez.

Musicians David Alvarez and David Blanco also received the award, making a total of 12 artists and intellectuals honored for their long and rich professional career in favor of the Cuban culture.
