Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday celebrated the first La Comuna meeting, dedicated to the articulation and collective construction of youths.

The president described the event as a space for the excellent communion of ideas, projects and diverse spirits with the same passion: Cuba, the Revolution and Socialism.

In a message on his Twitter account, Diaz-Canel recalled a phrase by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who said, “I believe in young people,” to which the head of State added, in them and for them Cuba lives and wins.

Convened by the Young Communist League (UJC), La Comuna is aimed at strengthening the community and unity as the main instruments for the struggle for social justice in the emerging revolutionary spaces that exist in the country.

The event, which began on Friday, is being attended by 100 representatives of the Federation of University Students, the LGTBIQ + community, the Christian Youth Movement, the Cimarrona feminist collective, and representatives of groups on Telegram such as Izquierda Unida (United Left) and La Manigua, among others.
