Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel today attended the opening ceremony of the judicial year, which this year celebrates the 50th anniversary of the creation of the country's justice court system.
The event is an important step in strengthening institutionality and contributes to strengthening the transparency and visibility of the judicial system, nationally and internationally.
According to information on Twitter from the Presidency of the Republic, the president of the Supreme Court, Ruben Remigio Ferro, highlighted the capacity of members of the courts to creatively face great challenges and guarantee, in generally difficult circumstances, the adequate and effective performance of their activity.
The lawyer pointed out that, despite the complex circumstances the country is going through, the administration of justice in Cuba in 2022 went at an adequate pace, with more than 85 % of the cases processed and concluded.
In addition, substantial changes were implemented during this stage as a result of the substantive, procedural and judicial reform derived from the approval of new laws.
The Supreme Court president said that in 2023 the judicial year will have as priority objectives to consolidate among magistrates, judges and judicial personnel, the knowledge and mastery of these new rules and ensure strict compliance with their provisions.
In 2022 the Cuban parliament approved a package of norms to transform procedural activity based on the new provisions of the 2019 Constitution and the guarantees and rights endorsed therein.
