Havana, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) The president of the National Assembly of People's Power (parliament) of Cuba, Esteban Lazo, said today that it is a desire and a necessity to strengthen parliamentary relations with the Serbian people.

He conveyed this conviction to Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic during a meeting they held at the National Capitol, as part of the European diplomat’s program during his official visit to Cuba.

Lazo highlighted the multiple spaces of exchange between the legislative organizations of both countries, including meetings of delegations and the signing of cooperation documents, as well as the existence of strong friendship groups.

In this regard, the visitor said that a relationship of true friendship between two countries exists when strong parliamentary relations are maintained and in this sense he praised those that exist between Cuba and Serbia.

Selakovic praised the high composition of women in the Cuban parliament and pointed out the progress made by his country in this regard, and said that he will be the bearer of a message to promote cooperation between the two legislative bodies.

Lazo thanked the Serbian position in condemning the U.S. blockade, expressed Havana’s support for the territorial integrity of the Balkan nation and condemned attempts to disunite the country.

The Serbian Foreign Minister thanked the Cuban position and expressed the willingness of his people and government to continue supporting the sustainable development of Cuba.

The Balkan diplomat paid tribute to Fidel Castro at the Center that bears his name and announced that a mural will be unveiled in his country on August 13 on the anniversary of the birthday of the man he considered one of the great friends of the Serbian people.

Selakovic’s visit takes place in the year in which Havana and Belgrade celebrate the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
