Havana, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, today congratulated teacher and writer Eduardo Heras Leon, recognized for the transcendence of his short story work and contributions to the formation of young storytellers in Cuba.

Today is the birthday of one of our most important and beloved writers: El Chino Heras, winner of the National Literature Award and founder of the Onelio Jorge Cardoso Workshop and Literary Training Center. A big hug, brother,” he said on his Twitter account.

From that social network, the National Library of Cuba congratulated the intellectual born in Havana on August 5, 1940, whose work exhibits high artistic and aesthetic values and at the same time enhances the field of literature in Cuba.

With an important vocation for literary teaching, the writer holds several awards such as the 2001 National Publishing Award, the Distinction for National Culture and the Master of Youth Award, granted by the Hermanos Saiz Association in recognition of the teacher of generations of Cuban storytellers.

The founder of the “Onelio Jorge Cardoso” Literary Training Center, the only one of its kind in the region, has bequeathed significant notebooks, among these, La guerra tuvo seis nombres (War had six names), Acero (Steel), A fuego limpio (Clean fire), Cuestión de principio (A matter of principle) and Los pasos en la hierba (Steps in the grass), the latter a mention in the Casa de las Américas contest in 1970.

In 2019, Heras received the tribute during the 28th Havana International Book Fair.
