Cuban Medical Sciences students, who are actively participating in the fight against the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, will complete the academic course in July, as planned, sector authorities said.

Dr. Jorge Gonzalez Perez, national director of teaching at the Ministry of Public Health, explained on Wednesday that finishing classes the date set will be possible because the students of those specialties continue their training even amid the current epidemiological situation.

Most of undergraduate and graduate students are linked to healthcare while others maintain distance learning, the official said on national broadcast.

Given the possibility of an increase in coronavirus cases in Cuba, the doctor commented that training health professionals is a priority and they even carried out a diploma course to train specialists in intensive care medicine.

Medical Sciences students are currently contributing to fight the pandemic with investigations, as they visit thousands of homes daily in search of possible patients infected with the virus.
