Havana, Jun 24 (Prensa Latina) The Director of the National Institute of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology of Cuba (INHEM, in Spanish) Disnardo Raúl Pérez on Friday reaffirmed his Institute´s commitment to guarantee Cuban people´s health.

“This 120th anniversary spurs us on to continue working for our people,” Mr. Pérez told Prensa Latina, while revealing a mural made by plastic artist Maisel López on the occasion of the 120th anniversary.

We are celebrating INHEM´s 120th anniversary, an institution that has been working hard in different phases, and its major lines of action are closely related to non-communicable diseases, risk factors and healthy nutrition.

We also have an important network of microbiology, sanitary chemistry, biochemistry and physiology labs, plus the sanitary registry for food, cosmetics and toys, Pérez pointed out.

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) representative in Cuba, José Moya, reiterated his Organization’s interest in continuing to cooperate with INHEM, while heaping praise on the institution´s breakthroughs for Cuba and the Americas.
