Washington, May 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Elio Rodriguez met in New York with Cuban residents in the US and thanked them for their solidarity against Washington's aggressive policy.

At the meeting, which took place at Cuba’s permanent headquarters at the United Nations, the deputy foreign minister highlighted the expressions of support received after the accident at the Saratoga Hotel in Havana, where more than 40 people were killed.

He also spoke about actions promoted in the US to call for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington and for good neighborly relations between both peoples.

In that regard, Rodriguez expressed gratitude for the donations of materials and medical supplies to fight Covid-19, made by Cubans and members of Cuba solidarity movements.

According to Jose Oro, one of the Cubans attending the meeting, they also discussed the impact of the latest measures taken by the administration of President Joe Biden regarding Cuba.

Rodriguez and other Cuban diplomatic representatives explained that those decisions, which are a step in the right path, were made unilaterally by the US Government without being the result of negotiations between the two countries, Oro added.

On Monday, the US Department of State announced a package of measures that will relax some of the 243 regulations imposed by the administration of then Republican President Donald Trump (2017-2021).
