HAVANA, Cuba, May 15 (ACN) With her third gold medal in the Pan American Road Cycling Championships, won in San Juan, Argentina, Cuban Arlenis Sierra improves a record that will make her a legend in this sport.

Sierra was followed on the podium by the Chilean Catalina Soto and the Uruguayan Fabiana Granizal. None of the other four Cuban racers who took part in the competition ended among the first 21 to cross the finish line, namely Marlies Mejías, Yudelmis Domínguez, Claudia Baró and Aylena Quevedo, who made up the event’s favorite team—Cuba swept to victory in 2018, again with Sierra and also in San Juan—and devoted themselves to helping Sierra and getting tickets for the Central American and Caribbean Games and the 2023 Pan American Games.

Sierra, who came to Argentina after winning the Tour of Andalusia with the famed Movistar Team, is also a two-time Pan American Games champion and multiple medalist in International Cycling Union classics, which makes her rank first in the Americas.

She became world-famous at 18 when she won the road race in the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico—where she was the youngest cyclist—and her teammates, the multiple world medalist Yumari González and the combative Yudelmis Domíguez, finished second and third to crown a historic and as yet unparalleled performance.
