Havana, Mar 17 (Prensa Latina) Representatives of more than a hundred organizations, movements and actors of the Cuban civil society on Friday strongly condemned the hostile economic US blockade imposed on Cuba.

Called by the Cuban Association of the United Nations (ACNU) to talks on human rights, participants also rejected Cuba´s inclusion in the list of States sponsor of terrorism, as well as US media campaigns.

During the meeting, attendees pointed to the U.S. blockade, which has been tightened to an extreme level, as a flagrant, serious and systematic violation of the human rights of the Cuban population.

It was stressed this genocidal policy impacts on society and violates in first place people´s right to life.

Political and media manipulation campaigns on the Cuban reality have the purpose of overshadowing the country´s achievements in terms of human rights and in particular the economic and social order the population has freely chosen for itself through a constitutional referendum.

Participants expressed their strong commitment to the defense, promotion and protection of all rights for all people, and recognized Cuban actions to guarantee them.

It is pivotal to continue organizing gatherings to promote greater and effective popular involvement in all processes of society, and to continue working to eliminate all forms of discrimination and inequality.

“Despite progress reached, there is still much to be done to consolidate the independent, socialist, democratic and sustainable sovereign nation we all aspire to,” participants stated.
