Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez received today his Iranian counterpart, Hosein Amir Abdolahian, with whom he discussed issues of common interest in the national and international spheres.

At the Palace of the Revolution, the Cuban Foreign Minister reiterated the island's support to the Persian nation and rejected destabilization attempts against that country.

Rodriguez described bilateral relations as very important and ratified Cuba's position in defense of the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The head of the Cuban diplomacy also thanked Iran for its support in the face of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade that the United States has been imposing on the Caribbean nation for more than six decades.

The Iranian Foreign Minister was pleased to have the opportunity to talk with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, with whom he spoke on Saturday afternoon.

He described the relations between the two countries as firm and historic and noted the variety of issues on the common agenda, both on national and international issues.

Hosein Amir Abdolahian arrived on the island as part of an international tour of Latin America and the Caribbean, which also included Venezuela and Nicaragua.

The day before, he met with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro at the Miraflores Palace, in addition to meeting with other important figures of the South American nation's government.

Cuba and the Islamic Republic of Iran have had uninterrupted diplomatic relations since August 8, 1979, and currently maintain high-ranking agreements in sectors such as energy, agriculture, banking, and industry (Source: Prensa Latina).
