The president of BioCubafarma, Eduardo Martínez, ratified on Thursday his country's willingness to increase its cooperation with Southern nations in the field of science in general and in biotechnology in particular.

We hope that during the Summit of the Group of 77 and China (G77) it will be agreed to increase cooperation in the field of science in general and specifically in the field of biotechnology, which has proven to be a total change in pharmaceutical science for the health of humanity, Martínez stated.

“Cuba can contribute to that and we are fully willing to be able to do so,” said the president of BioCubafarma at a press conference regarding the G77 Summit today and Saturday at the Havana Convention Center, with the central theme Current development challenges: Role of Science, Technology and Innovation.

At the conference, on the Cuban biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry in the development of innovative products with great social impact, Martínez spoke about the most recent medications developed by his Group for the treatment of diseases such as diabetes and some types of cancer, meningococcal meningitis and Alzheimer’s.

He highlighted the cooperation with other nations in the production of medicines, among them Brazil, China and Iran, to which Cuba has transferred technology and develops joint projects.

For her part, the first vice president of BioCubafarma, Mayda Mauri, highlighted the very humanistic vocation of Cuba and its biopharmaceutical industry.

Cuba can demonstrate these results to the world, thanks to the relevance it gave to the training of professionals and prioritizing financial resources in the most difficult moments that the Cuban economy was going through, after the collapse of the socialist camp.

She indicated that Cuba has created first-class installed technological capabilities in the world and very strong command of various technological platforms and said that they have made all this arsenal available to developing countries.

Cuba also highlights the issue of contributing technology in the models of mixed companies that it has been creating abroad, and has demonstrated its capacity and willingness to transfer knowledge of high added value, she revealed.

In the Group of 77, Cuba continues its position of sharing with the South everything we have, he noted and stressed that “the contribution can be great, it will not be new, but it will be a strategy of continuity.”
