Havana, August 8 (RHC)-- Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío on Monday thanked the solidarity assistance offered by US people and organizations as Cuba is currently facing a deadly fire.

Multiple assistance offers from various US people and organizations have been received in the last few hours. We appreciate it!, the Cuban diplomat tweeted.

This is an overly complicated situation; De Cossío added about the blaze that broke out last Friday when lightning stroke an oil storage tank in the western city of Matanzas' Industrial Zone.

De Cossío said a top priority is to put out the deadly fire but added that medicines and medical supplies are also necessary.

\On Saturday, the Cuban diplomat deeply appreciated the condolences and assistance from Americans and the technical advice offered by the US government.

\US groups in solidarity with Cuba announced they would be launching a campaign to collect funds and medical supplies for the victims of the large-scale fire that continues negatively impacting the Matanzas oil storage tanks.

Such an initiative, promoted by the Bridges of Love Movement, CodePink Organization, and the Italian Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba, also seeks to get some resources to aid the victims.

Bridges of Love Movement called on the US government to lift its hostile blockade and urged to provide immediate technical assistance to Cuba amid the present disaster.

In turn, the Interfaith Foundation for Community Organization IFCO-Pastors for Peace asked all Cuban friends to donate immediate needs to support Cuba.
