HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 21 (ACN) Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla sent condolences today to the people and government of Indonesia for the loss of lives and damage caused by a 5.6-magnitude earthquake that shook the province of West Java Monday, with a preliminary toll of 162 dead and hundreds of wounded.

Rodriguez Parrilla extended condolences to the families of the victims and the affected by the earthquake, which according to the authorities of that Southeast Asian country, was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers (km), 110 km from Jakarta, the capital, and in just two hours was followed by more than 25 aftershocks.

In Cianjur, the city most affected by the earthquake and close to the epicenter, more than 300 buildings have collapsed or have suffered considerable damage, while rescuers continue their search for possible survivors.

The authorities warned that the death toll could rise in the coming hours, considering that many people are still missing and several residents remain trapped in the rubble.

West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil said the situation is chaotic and there is a possibility of further aftershocks; tents and shelters are being set up for victims while basic needs are being met.
