Jorge Cuéllar (71 kg) left no doubt on Friday as he defeated China's Yeerdawulieli Maiyilanbieke by a wide 5-0 margin, marking Cuba's second male victory in the Guizhou Open Boxing Tournament.
The Caribbean boxer, a bronze medalist at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, controlled the distance with authority, landed sharp jabs, and closed each round with effective combinations. His clear win follows yesterday's victory by world silver medalist Saidel Horta (57 kg).
The women's team, however, saw less success, with all four Cuban representatives now eliminated from the competition.
On Saturday, Danaibis de las Nieves (50 kg) fell 0-5 to local fighter Yuan Yuan Lv in a match where her opponent's mobility dictated the pace. Magda Masó (75 kg) suffered an even more decisive loss, stopped by RSC in the second round by China's Mu Lan Ruan.
During the opening session, the defeats of Meliza Millares (60 kg) and Maruán Roque (80 kg) contrasted with Horta's strong debut.
The Cuban squad, still in a phase of international development, aims to raise its competitive level ahead of the major events in the current cycle.
