Havana, Jul 23 (Prensa Latina) Cuba today described as genuine and true the cooperation of the Solidarity Movement in the United States, which sent a first shipment of 1.7 million syringes for vaccination on the island.

Representing the Ministry of Health of the Caribbean nation, Néstor Miramon, director of International Relations, thanked this lot, which is part of a larger campaign to collect six million of these supplies. These syringes will be used in the National Vaccination Plan with Abdala and Soberana 02, of national production, said the specialist.

The purchase and shipment were arranged by Global Health Partners, a humanitarian organization that has shipped drugs and medical supplies to Cuba for 27 years.

Miramon recalled that 85 percent of the resources used in the protocols for dealing with Covid-19 are Cuban and that 20 percent of the Caribbean population has completed their three-dose vaccination scheme.

'We have received around 500 donations from organizations, countries and individuals in the framework of this pandemic', he said.

Similarly, he described the intensification of the United States blockade against the island and the imposition of 243 unilateral measures as the main obstacles to the country's development.

In Miramon's opinion, this show of solidarity is opposed to the annexationist and manipulated campaigns that call for a military intervention in Cuba from Miami.

For her part, Sandra Ramírez, representing the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, also thanked the shipment of syringes from the United States, which joins others from Italy, Germany, Panama, San Marino, among other nations.

'This is a sample of how many people want to maintain bilateral friendly relations,' she said.

Both highlighted the efforts of solidarity movements in the United States to gather and send this type of cargo due to the laws of the North American siege.

Among the groups that raised funds are the #SavingLives Campaign (a coalition of dozens of organizations opposed to the blockade), Codepink, The People's Forum, International Longshore and Warehouse Union, Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and two groups made up of Cuban Americans: the Movement No Embargo Cuba and Bridges of Love.
