INAR DEL RIO, Cuba, Nov 22 (ACN) Edelki Gonzalez Osorio had never participated in the building of a tobacco cure house or come to Pinar del Rio(westernmost Cuban province), and today he is part of one of the brigades from other provinces that support the recovery work in this territory after the scourge of Hurricane Ian, last September 27.

Commercial Specialist of the Holguin Agroforestry Enterprise, he is currently in charge of the group of men who are taking on the construction of a chamber, the placement of the whole roof and the enlargement of the house to be able to undertake in this campaign the cure of the covered and sun tobacco.

In these lands they work 12 hours a day to repair in time the damages caused by the tropical cyclone, which punished this territory for almost eight hours.

Noel Echevarria Simon, president of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP by its Spanish acronym) in the province, pointed out that the support from other territories has been mainly in the reconstruction of houses and their chambers, with brigades from places such as Artemisa, Mayabeque, Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus, Ciego de Avila, Villa Clara and Holguin.

Cuba's largest producer province of the tobacco leaf needs to build some 6,200 natural cure houses for this 2022-2023 tobacco season, out of the more than 10,000 severely damaged by the force of Ian's winds, hence the value of the contribution of all those involved in this endeavor.
