United Nations, Jun 20 (Prensa Latina) Cuba On Monday rejected at the UN the long colonizing process to which the United States has been subjugating Puerto Rico and called for its own independence.

On Monday, the UN Special Committee on Decolonization passed a new resolution on Puerto Rico, reaffirming it is not about a Washington´s internal matter since it really concerns the entire international community, the Cuban ambassador to UN Pedro Luis Pedroso stated, while presenting a document co-sponsored by the representations of Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Syria and Russia.

The Cuban diplomat recalled that this 2022 commemorates 50 years since the adoption of first resolution on the Colonial Question of Puerto Rico. Such documents reaffirmed Puerto Rico´s status as a Latin American and Caribbean nation, with its own unmistakable national identity.

“Cuba has an unequivocal responsibility for self-determination and independence of Puerto Rico, which is based on the unbreakable friendship and relationship with deep historical roots, and a common struggle for independence and sovereignty for more than a century.”
