Cuba reaffirms at UN extraterritorial spectrum of US measures

Washington, Oct 27 (Prensa Latina) The United States' policy against Cuba is a system of unilateral coercive measures with a broad extraterritorial spectrum, the island's permanent mission to the United Nations reaffirmed today.

According to an article shared on the official website of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, it is not a bilateral conflict, as they intend to show, nor does it only affect the Government of the Caribbean nation, but rather seeks to harm the population by aiming to overthrow the revolution.

‘Cuba’s permanence on the List of State Sponsors of Terrorism has reinforced the dissuasive and intimidating impact of the blockade, as well as the country’s difficulties in entering international trade and carrying out financial operations’, the source stressed.

In this sense, the mentioned text explains how this influenced the closing of contracts, loss of relations with banking entities, indebtedness, delays in sending and receiving funds and merchandise, among other difficulties.

In addition to the economic war, the country faces “a pernicious media-communication campaign based on lies, manipulation and the most diverse methods of unconventional warfare to try to destabilize the country, launched and monitored by the United States Government,” the text specified.

The so-called ‘regime change’, ‘in clear violation of the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of countries’, the article pointed out, putting the Cubans as the target of their media bombardment, in addition to international audiences.

According to the Cuban diplomatic representation, the strategy includes the promotion of artificial leaders, ‘the fabrication of pretexts for the failed trial of a humanitarian intervention, the encouragement of irregular emigration, all of this in order to position the false image of a country ‘In crisis’.

Every year Washington allocates around 20 million dollars for operations against Cuba, in programs operated under Section 109 of the Helms-Burton Act, which authorizes the president to provide assistance and other types of support to individuals and non-government organizations against Cuba by ‘democratization’ efforts.

According to the island’s Foreign Ministry, between August 2021 and February 2022, the losses caused by the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the White House on Havana are in the order of three billion 806 thousand dollars, a historical record for such a short period.

During the first 14 months of the Joe Biden administration, the damage from the blockade amounts to 6.364 million dollars, which means more than 15 million dollars a day in damages, he added.
