A change of position towards Cuba remains outside the foreign policy priorities of U.S. President Joe Biden, the White House press secretary, Jen Psaki, reiterated on Friday.

The spokeswoman made this statement, very similar to another she made on this issue last month when asked about the 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba underway in Havana.

According to Paski, the U.S. administration will closely follow the leadership changes in the Caribbean country.

The spokeswoman said that U.S. policy towards the island will be governed by what Washington calls support for democracy and human rights.

Under the pretext of alleged human rights violations on the island, Washington has imposed numerous sanctions on Cuba and insists on maintaining an economic, commercial, and financial blockade of almost 60 years, despite the overwhelming rejection of the international community.

A week ago, Juan Gonzalez, Biden's assistant and senior director for the Western Hemisphere at the National Security Council, stressed that a rapprochement with Cuba will be a gradual process and the policy of former President Barack Obama will not be resumed.

"Joe Biden is not Barack Obama in the policy towards Cuba," he said in an interview with CNN television network and justified that the political moment has changed significantly, with Washington focused on several crises in the world and the complex domestic situation.

Gonzalez admitted that the United States is not complying with the migration agreement with the island that provides the granting of 20,000 visas per year, citing as a pretext the health incidents reported by U.S. diplomats in Havana.
