Cuba to participate in World Customs Organization event
HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 22 (ACN) A delegation of the General Customs Office of the Republic of Cuba (AGR) presided by its head Nelson Cordovés Reyes will participate in the 139th and 140th Sessions of the Council of the World Customs Organization (WCO), to be held in Brussels, Belgium on June 23 to 25.
The delegation’s agenda includes meetings with the WCO Secretary General, Kunio Mikuriya, and other officials of the organization, as well as with the staff of the Cuban embassy in Brussels.
Among the topics to be addressed are policy and governance, prospects for the development of customs activity at global level, and the new policies, experiences and mechanisms adopted in the field during the pandemic. There will also be elections to fill vacant positions in different structures of the organization.
Based in Brussels, the WCO is an independent intergovernmental organization in charge of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of customs administrations. It currently represents 184 customs administrations worldwide, which together process around 98% of international trade.
