Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, Dec 6 (Prensa Latina) I achieved my aspirations of becoming a doctor of medicine in Cuba, said today Johanna Vera, who traveled from Sweden to study at the Faustino Perez University of Medical Sciences in this central province.

Excited to know that the tribunal ranked her thesis as excellent, she told Prensa Latina that she achieved a dream since she was a child, to become a professional in the land of her parents, who have been living in the Scandinavian country for 30 years.

She said that her parents also suggested her to study in Cuba, where the best doctors in the world are trained and where scientific advances distinguish her in many areas, added the young woman who has just turned 27 years old.

At the age of 19 she returned to the homeland she hardly remembered, she did not speak Spanish, she had to obtain Cuban citizenship and university entrance, I overcame everything, step by step, my heart went from one emotion to another, especially when I shared with young Cubans, she affirms.

During the pandemic she had an outstanding work in the red zone, in the university itself, set up as an alternative hospital, it was the greatest experience because it meant fighting for the life of others, she explained.

The two years of the Covid-19 left in Vera a very positive mark in her formation, the professionalism of the health personnel, the human solidarity and to see how the maximum authorities of the country looked for alternatives to gain ground to the pandemic.

Studying in Cuba was not an adventure, it was dictated by my heart and my Cuban blood, although I like to experiment, to do things for the benefit of others, she adds, who is now thinking whether to do her specialty in Sancti Spiritus or in another country.

I feel I’m a promoter of Cuba’s medical advances, of its achievements, like being ahead of the world with the creation of vaccines against pandemics. Cuba lives and will live in my heart, she summarized.
