The Cuban resort city of Varadero will host the 19th World Underwater Photography Championship, an event sponsored by the World Confederation of Underwater Activities (WCUA), from October 8 to 15.

The event, which for the first time arrives to the Hicacos Peninsula, will include among its competitive days the celebration of the Fifth World Underwater Video Championship, which will show the beauty of nature present in the Cuban seas.

According to the website www.jit.cu, photographers and cameramen from Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Sweden, Belgium, Slovenia, Germany, Norway, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Finland, among other countries will participate in the competition, which will be held in Cuba’s main sun and beach tourist destination. Teams of two photographers and two cameramen, previously selected in their respective national championships, will compete.

The locations will have depths of up to 30 meters with the presence of assistant divers and the immersions will take place in the waters for 50-55 minutes, according to the site.

According to the official program of the World Cup, the teams will compete in four categories: Macro, Wide Angle, Model and Spectacular and the snapshots will be evaluated by a jury in charge of selecting the first two places in each one of them.

The competition, which dates back to 1940, is part of the WCUA, an organization that brings together members from 170 countries and millions of followers worldwide.
