Buenos Aires, Jun 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Deputy Minister of Higher Education Miriam Alpizar on Thursday highlighted in the Argentinian city of Cordoba the role of education in the transformation of society and the development of nations.

During the inauguration of the International Congress of Public Universities, the deputy minister highlighted the relevance of this event as a continuity of the first regional conference, held in 1996 in Havana, and other subsequent events.

This event is historically significant and allows us to discuss, in our own space, the situation of Latin America and the Caribbean, she said.

Alpizar also advocated contributing, from universities, to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals and building universities with a social and gender focus that contributes to human development.

Relevant, scientific, technological and innovative education for all throughout life requires public policies that allow the necessary interaction between the players in each territory, she said.

On the other hand, she expressed Cuba’s willingness to offer its solidary collaboration in the academic world, something she considered fundamental for the transformation of the countries of the region.

The Congress is taking place at the National University of Cordoba with the participation of representatives of educational communities from all over the world.

Professionals from the University of Havana, the José Antonio Echeverría Technological University (also from Havana) and the University of Oriente are participating on behalf of Cuba.
