Cuba is Heritage of Humanity, Stresses Former Brazilian Workers' Party Leader

José Genoino Calls for Global Support Against New US Aggression
Cuba is a heritage of humanity and deserves all our support and solidarity, expressed José Genoino, former president of Brazil's Workers' Party (PT), today following a new act of aggression by President Donald Trump against the island.

In a telephone conversation with Prensa Latina, the former Brazilian federal deputy stated that supporting Cuba is a duty of every democrat, of all who defend the self-determination of peoples, and of all socialists.

Cuba as a Symbol of Anti-Imperialist Struggle
"Cuba represents a victory against imperialism and the struggle of peoples, and it has marked our generations," added Genoino, after the US president yesterday signed an executive order declaring a national emergency regarding the Caribbean country and announcing tariffs against those who supply it with oil.

According to the former PT leader, solidarity with Cuba means taking to the streets, pressuring progressive and center-left governments not to accept the American blockade, and also requires an internationalist demonstration of world public opinion to provide full support to the Antillean nation.

Call for Resistance and Broader Solidarity
"Cuba must win," Genoino added, asserting that this pressure from the United States—"an empire in crisis trying to suffocate this fundamental reference for democratic and socialist changes"—cannot be accepted.

In his statements, he also showed his support for the Venezuelan people and called for demanding the freedom of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Deputy Cilia Flores, who were kidnapped on January 3rd during an aggression ordered by Trump.
