Cuba reiterated its support for Argentina's sovereign right over the Malvinas (Falkland) Islands and advocated the resumption of negotiations between Buenos Aires and the London to find a peaceful solution to the conflict.

“Just like 40 years ago, when the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the United States allied against Argentina, Cuba rejects all forms of colonialism,” Cuba’s ambassador to Argentina, Pedro Pablo Prada, tweeted.

He also stated that Cuba defends international law, the Charter of the United Nations Organization and peace, and opposes the use or threat of force against any State.

“We support the resumption of negotiations between Argentina and the United Kingdom to find a peaceful and definitive solution to the sovereignty dispute over the Malvinas, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands and surrounding maritime spaces,” he added.

The ambassador defended the declaration of Latin America as a zone of peace and the search for dialogue as an effective tool.

“Cuba reiterates its unrestricted support for the legitimate right of this nation to sovereignty over the Malvinas, which are part of its territory. Our position is very clear: the Malvinas were, are and will continue to be Argentinean,” he stated.

The Secretary for Malvinas, Antarctica and the South Atlantic of Argentina’s Foreign Ministry Guillermo Carmona thanked the support of the Government and people of Cuba.
