Havana, Oct 20 (Prensa Latina) Cuba and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday recalled the first visit made by Army General Raul Castro 55 years ago to the Asian nation, as a symbol of the bilateral historic ties.

Raul Castro, who was the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba, traveled to the DPRK along with then Cuban President Osvaldo Dorticos, between October 26 and 29, 1966, on an invitation by the highest Korean authorities.

During their stay in Pyongyang, the two Cuban leaders conveyed a message of admiration for the Korean people and leaders, who received them with great examples of friendship and affection.

The stay of Raul Castro, who also was the President of the Council of State and Ministers from 2008-2018 and the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba from 2011-2021, is recalled on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations, celebrated in 2020, amid growing ties of friendship, solidarity and collaboration.

Prensa Latina and the Korean Central News Agency inaugurated as of this Wednesday a virtual exhibition with images that demonstrate the strong bilateral ties.

Cuba and the DPRK maintain close reciprocal cooperation and coincide on international issues, including North Korea's condemnation of the blockade the United States has exercised for more than six decades against Cuba, while Havana advocates peace on the Korean peninsula.
