Cuba: 42 deaths in explosion at Saratoga Hotel

Havana, May 10 (Prensa Latina) At least 42 people have died as a result of the explosion that occurred last Friday at the Saratoga Hotel in Havana, and 96 were injured, the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) reported on Tuesday.

On its website, the ministry said that of the total number of deaths, 23 are male and 19 are female, four are minors, one was a pregnant woman and one was a foreigner of Spanish nationality.

Of the 96 injured people, 37 have already been discharged, while 17 remain in five hospitals in Havana, including 12 adults and five children.

Among the elderly people, nine are men and three are women, four were reported as critical, one was seriously ill and seven in less ill.

In relation to the five hospitalized children, two are reported critical, one serious and two are less ill.

Minsap reiterated its gratitude to all the agencies, organizations and people in general for their support for the actions being carried out with the patients and their families, as well as the concern shown for those hospitalized.
