Colombian Foreign Minister thanks Cuba for hospitality

Bogota, Aug 12 (Prensa Latina) Colombian Foreign Minister Alvaro Leyva thanked Cuba for its hospitality and the new welcome to the reconciliation purposes that will accompany them today and always.

Leyva, who traveled to Cuba on Thursday to explore the possibilities of restarting the peace negotiations with the National Liberation Army (ELN), expressed President Miguel Diaz-Canel and all the Cuban people Colombia’s solidarity in the face of the fire occurred in the western province of Matanzas, “a tragic situation that has affected everyone.”

In a communique, the minister said that he traveled to Havana on Thursday accompanied by Senator Ivan Cepeda and High Commissioner for Peace Danilo Rueda, and was received by his counterpart Bruno Rodriguez.

He stated that he highlighted the foreign minister that, for more than 40 years since the 1980s, Cuba has uninterruptedly welcomed in its territory delegates of the Colombian governments that have sought to achieve peace with armed groups.

He stressed that Cuba was the venue of the 2016 Final Peace Agreement between the Colombian State and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP) that has been considered an example for the whole world.

We aspire to resume talks with the ELN, in this land of peace in order to begin the path proposed by President Gustavo Petro Urrego to achieve the total peace. Thank you Republic of Cuba for your hospitality. We are honored to be here, he said.
