Beijing, Jul 19 (Prensa Latina) China reiterated today its warnings to the United States about the approval of strong measures if the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, finally makes a postponed visit to Taiwan.

The Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its opposition to any kind of official exchange with the southern territory and demanded that the legislative body respect the One China policy.

Beijing will proceed with decisive actions to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity, it said, and the United States will assume responsibility for all consequences if Pelosi travels to Taiwan in August as planned.

Similarly, the Ministry of Defense submitted a note of protest to U.S. representatives over its contract with Taipei that provides for arms sales worth nearly $108 million.

It considered the move as a serious violation of the One China principle and the communiqués underpinning bilateral relations, as well as interference in the Asian giant’s internal affairs and security interests.

The military contract is part of a plan announced in 2019 by the White House to supply war equipment to Taipei for two billion dollars.

The international community passed with 170 votes a resolution in 1971 that considers the People’s Republic of China the sole legitimate representative to the United Nations and recognizes Taiwan as an inalienable part of that Asian nation.

To move toward complete reunification of the national territory, Beijing also advocates the policy of One Country, Two Systems, applied in the administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau.

However, Taipei’s leaders refuse to accept this status.
