Beijing, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) China deplored the visit to Taiwan of Japanese politician Keiji Furuya, considering it a violation of its sovereignty and a wrong signal sent to promoters of separatism, and said it will take strong measures in this regard.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized in a statement that the lawmaker is on the island regardless of Beijing’s opposition and the fundamentals of bilateral ties, which are governed by the One China principle.

He described the trip as an act of manipulation aimed at undermining the territorial integrity and the reunification process of China, after denouncing the complicity of the Japanese government with its parliamentarians and predicting the failure of separatism.

The Foreign Ministry also demanded Tokyo to stick to the commitments assumed in its relations with China, to stop provocations and to stop further exacerbating the Taiwan issue.

Apart from pronouncing itself against Keiji Furuya’s stay, the Chinese Foreign Ministry also condemned the presence on the island of U.S. Governor Eric J. Holcomb of Indiana and reaffirmed its rejection of all official contacts with Taipei.

Tensions in the Taiwan Strait have remained at dangerous levels since early August, due to the trip of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other congressmen to the southern island.
