The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, eluded conducting a national investigation into systemic racism in the police, as demanded by the Assembly of First Nations (APN), remarked the local press.

According to the Canadian Press website, the body, representative of native peoples, approved a resolution demanding an investigation into the actions of police officers and related deaths following the murder of nine persons from Indigenous communities in less than four weeks, in August and September.

Three women whose children died during an interaction with the officers called on the Trudeau-led federal government to reform the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Before the Assembly, which met in Ottawa, the Prime Minister acknowledged the grief of the victims but did not pronounce himself to take action in favor of the demand.

Thus, the complaints and statements by civil society continue against the Canadian police, which a Quebec Supreme Court decision this year held responsible for discriminatory practices.
