La Paz, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia's Ministry of Health and Sports on Tuesday started to use a new means to fight the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus by authorizing the sale of Molnupiravir, a drug used to treat Covid-19.

“The State Agency for Medicines and Health Technologies (AGEMED, in Spanish), attached to the Ministry of Health and Sports, informs that, through the National Pharmacological Commission, it approved the drug Molnupiravir Capsules 400 mg in December, 2021,” according to the statement by that ministry.

The statement adds that this anti-viral medicine is another one used to treat this disease and has been scientifically recommended in “light” or “moderate” patients.

Under no circumstances should Molnupiravir be considered to replace the preventive effect of vaccines, the statement clarifies.

Regarding the new Covid-19 wave that is hitting Bolivia, former President Evo Morales expressed satisfaction for the full recovery of 85-year-old Cardinal Toribio Ticona in a tweet.

Meanwhile, a message by the El Alto City Diocese confirmed that the cardinal was medically discharged on Monday morning. He had tested positive for Covid-19 on Jan.11.
