In ancient Greek mythology, Atlas was a Titan condemned by Zeus to carry the world on his shoulders. A world on the shoulders of a creature. The image is powerful, the metaphor, suggestive. The photographer Alfredo Sarabia updates it in his most recent exhibition, which is exhibited at Servando gallery in the capital.

His images offer a multiple vision of the world we live in. They are photographs that, in their physical concretion, can be lifted by people.

The dancers from Malpaso company starred in an interesting performance proposal. As if they were contemporary Atlases, as if they had to support with their forces, these fragments of the world that Sarabia recreates in his photographs.

There are several cultural implications. The artist finds inspiration and support also in verses from the New Testament. It’s the quest —and the proposal— for hope in the difficult effort to deal with the world.

The exhibition will be open until next month, it’s the opportunity to appreciate the work of one of the most interesting artists of contemporary Cuban photography, and his very peculiar vision of the here and now.
