The Executive Secretariat of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) on Monday expressed its solidarity with Colombia's vice president, Francia Marquez.

The head of the Latin American and Caribbean regional integration bloc, Jorge Arreaza, referred on X to the assassination attempt on the father of the Colombian vice-president and one of her nephews in the Cauca region. Fortunately, there were no casualties,’ he said.

He reaffirmed that ALBA-TCP peoples and governments ‘have always advocated for comprehensive peace and the cessation of political violence in Colombia’.

In a message sent on Sunday, the vice-president said that ‘it hurts my heart that on this very day, an attack has been made against my father’.

Marquez expressed her concern for security in Cauca, Valle del Cauca, in the municipality of Suárez and the village of La Toma, as well as for the ‘safety of my community and my family’.
