Several African presidents on Tuesday favored strengthening economic and financial cooperation in the face of serious challenges in this continent and the rest of the world.

When inaugurating the 21st Summit of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said that, under the pro tempore leadership of the bloc, his country will boost regional integration.

It is necessary to increase ties among COMESA member States, the president pointed out at the summit, held in the new administrative capital, some 45 km from Cairo.

For his part, President of Madagascar Andre Rajoelina spoke about the severe crisis that is affecting the planet due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Due to the disease, there were unprecedented changes everywhere, not only in the health sector and employment, but also in the falling prices of basic goods and products, he pointed out.

Rajoelina stressed that, during that time, technology was vital to hold meetings, boost trade and many other human activities.

Founded in 1994, the group is a regional economic community made up of 21 African countries, including Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Zambia and Uganda.
