The Russian airline Aeroflot will start flights to Varadero, Cuba's main beach resort, on June 1, a source from the airline confirmed.

This route will link the Sheremetyevo airport in the Moscow capital and Juan Gualberto Gomez, in the western Cuban province of Matanzas, Yamir Miyares, head of ground operations at the Matanzas airport, told Prensa Latina.

Regular flights on the Moscow-Varadero-Moscow route of Russia's main airline will have a frequency on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with more than 500 seats, the executive said.

"In addition to increasing the arrival of tourists from the Eurasian giant to Varadero, the transit of postal mail will also increase," Miyares added.

With Aeroflot's arrival, four Russian companies will fly to Juan Gualberto Gómez, the second most important airport on the island. In April, Azur Air, NordWind, and Royal Flight began operations.

"From June onwards, there will be ten weekly arrivals of aircraft with an estimated four thousand to four thousand 500 Russian vacationers to enjoy Varadero," the source added.

Vacationers are subjected to the hygienic-sanitary controls established to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and the biosecurity measures provided for in the protocols without losing fluidity and agility in the attention to travelers, the specialist added.

Varadero is located on the Hicacos Peninsula, on the northern coast of the Matanzas territory, 140 kilometers east of Havana.

Its beach, of fine white sand, is considered among the best in the world, according to international surveys, and has a varied extra-hotel network with a wide range of recreational options.
