The delegates to the 7th meeting of Cubans living in Latin America and the Caribbean, meeting in the Dominican Republic, dedicated Sunday morning to the promotion of sports development in Cuba.

Pedro Zamora, a wrestling coach residing in that country, gave a tour on the progress of sports in the Caribbean nation, Prensa Latina reported from Santo Domingo.

He referred to Cuba's sports collaboration with the sister nation, with more than 800 people among coaches and other specialists only between 1994 and 2000 in soccer, athletics, handball and artistic gymnastics, among other disciplines.

Zamora highlighted that between 2013 to 2019 delegations of different sports participated in bases and events at the invitation of the Dominican Republic, an aspect that speaks of the quality of the island's sport and the solidarity of the Dominican Republic.

However, he said, the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the geopolitical contexts related to the global economic crisis and other causes of objective and subjective character, has diminished this reality at present.

He added that new cooperation formulas are being evaluated, and highlighted the excellent results of Dominican athletes in international tournaments, trained by Cubans.

On the occasion, Ana Teresita Fraga, General Director of Consular Affairs and Attention to Cubans Living Abroad of the Foreign Ministry, explained that the 11th International Convention on Physical Activity and Sports will be held from November 10 to 14 this year at the Havana Convention Center.
