The film directed by filmmaker Marilyn Solaya works very well at the level of the public, told García to Prensa Latina, who shares the leading role with Cuban actress Laura de la Uz in this film.

Inspired in true events, the 2014 film, narrates a love story marked by male chauvinism, the lack of understanding and the violence of a completely patriarchal society.

Platforms like the Goya Awards in Spain are a showcase of our cinema, expressed García, stating the nomination of the film is already recognition for Solaya and the working team.

While commenting the transcendence of the film, he said that in his opinion the most important thing is that it revealed to the world an unknown story, full of emotions and oppose feelings.

The news that Vestido de novia will be representing Cuba at Goya Awards made me very happy; however, I didn’t understand why the Island candidature to the Academy Awards was void, Garcia affirmed.

In this sense, he added: «I think that if we have just one film, it should be sent; that’s what the rest of the countries have done, even with great cinema tradition or none».

Garcia commented that this kind of decisions corroborates the Cuban cinema lacks a well thought strategy to show our cinema at an international level.

Talking about this, he said that he recently traveled with Cuban actor Héctor Medina to the United States, where he could verify for himself that several filmmakers, scriptwriters, art critics and actors unknown the reality of seventh art in Cuba.

The list of finalists to the 30th edition of the Goya Awards will be published on December 14 and the prizewinners will receive their prizes during a ceremony planned for February 6 next year.

Cuban films La bella del Alhambra (1989), Fresa y chocolate (1994), La vida es silbar (1999) and Juan de los muertos (2012), obtained awards in previous editions of the prestigious event.
