The book, which Streisand has reportedly been contemplating at least since 2009, is scheduled to be published in 2017. According to a press release from Viking, "Ms. Streisand's memoir will share memories of her childhood, explore her extraordinarily successful career on stage, screen, and in the recording studio, and reflect on her life."

The Oscar-, Emmy-, Tony- and Grammy-winning performer previously published a book with Viking in 2010, titled "My Passion for Design," a coffee table book which has become something of a cult obsession for Streisand fans, and even inspired the hit off-Broadway show "Buyer & Cellar."

Until now, though, she's been loath to publish a traditional memoir, despite telling the Associated Press in 2009 that she had been working on chapters of the book. "I go back and forth," she said at the time. "Do I really want to write about my life? Do I really want to relive my life? I'm not sure."

Her mind now made up, the memoir is likely to be a major best-seller. Viking did not disclose how much it paid for the book, though comparable celebrity memoirs have earned their authors many millions. Lena Dunham, for instance, was paid a reported $3.7 million for 2014's "Not That Kind of Girl," and Keith Richards earned a reported $7 million for 2010's "Life."

Let the guessing games on potential titles for the memoir begin.
