The injuries sustained by the 72-year-old star of the “Star Wars” films, the Indiana Jones saga and many other films had been described earlier at a press conference as light to moderate.

Ford, an experienced pilot, was at the controls of the small plane when it crashed, and – bloody and with cuts on his head – was given first aid at the Penmar golf course, in Venice, California.

The crash took place about 2:24 p.m.

Patrick Butler, with the Los Angeles Fire Department, said that Ford was “alert, conscious and breathing” when he was attended to by paramedics.

Ford, who was the only person on board the plane, was transported to UCLA Hospital.

This is not the first time Ford has been involved in a plane accident. In 2000 the small plane he was flying crashed in Lincoln, Nebraska, but he was not injured in that mishap.
