Cuba has been farming for centuries and despite this, their water is doing really good! Unlike other places where agriculture runoff is a major issue for waterway pollution, Cuba’s water remain remarkably clean and supports sustainable agriculture models.

Cuba has been practicing a type of sustainable agriculture since the 90s. Although their water did show a lot of E. coli bacteria from livestock, it didn’t show a high chemical load associated with the use of fertilizer and pesticides.

This is data that can be taken back and used to address farming in other parts of the world. Although the end result may look different due to location, it is clear that sustainable farming does indeed lessen overall environmental effects of food production.
