A statement from the coordinating committee, which brings together the Friendship Houses with the island, indicates that this repudiation is shared by workers, students, Indigenous communities, and the organized people in general, and constitutes a provocation and interference against the sovereignty of the peoples of Our America.
The declaration denounces the U.S. blockade against Cuba, which it describes as criminal and genocidal, and "Rubio's role as one of the principal architects of the policy of economic suffocation and hostility against the sister Republic of Cuba."
"The U.S. blockade does not punish a government, but an entire people; it is an act of economic warfare that has reached record levels with estimated losses of 8.083 billion dollars in the latest period and a cumulative impact over more than 60 years of more than 178.7 billion dollars," it explains.
This ruthless policy, it adds, brutally restricts access to fuel and energy, paralyzing the supply of drinking water and transportation while generating systematic blackouts.
It denounces that the blockade also deprives the Cuban health system of medicines and basic supplies, directly affecting children who require hemodialysis or surgery, and putting the lives of newborns in incubators at risk.
It demands the immediate cessation of the energy and economic siege that seeks to provoke a humanitarian crisis through hunger and desperation.
It also calls for the defense of sovereignty and of the Declaration of Latin America as a Zone of Peace, of which Peru is a signatory, and adds that "We will not allow the enemies of self-determination to come and impose imperial directives on our soil."
