Cuba and the European Union (EU) supported on Monday the second meeting of the dialogue on human rights, guided by the interest to propitiate spaces for the opinions exchange, he informed today the Cuban Chancellery in its digital portal. According to the official statement, in the meeting, which gives continuity to the first one developed in June, 2015, in Brussels, both delegations demonstrated also the intention of extending the knowledge of the respective realities and of exploring possibilities of bilateral cooperation and in multilateral stages.

The last thing, in those topics in which coincidence points exist, pointed out the State Department (Minrex), at the time that he added that in the meeting specific questions were discussed on human rights, defined previously between both parts.

The above mentioned questions correspond so much to the ambience of the civil and political rights as to that of the economic, social and cultural rights, he added.

Although in the dialogue the parts demonstrated "deep differences" of positions and approaches in several debated substantive questions, they maintained a respectful treatment and the will to tackle any topic, with full respect to the sovereign equality, the independence, not interference in the respective internal affairs and the reciprocal character, stated the Minrex.

In this sense, they emphasized that the Cuban part repeated its interest of which the exchange contributes to an effective, constructive and not discriminatory treatment of the topic of the human rights, and to the advance in the process of construction of better relations between the community block and the island.

The delegations for this second meeting of the dialogue were presided by the special representative of the EU for Human rights, Stavros Lambrinidis, and the director-general of Multilateral Matters and International Law for Minrex, Pedro Núñez Mosquera.

The meeting and debate was held in a respectful and constructive climate, highlighted the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
