Santiago de Cuba Receives Ambulances to Strengthen Emergency System
especiales

As part of the program to improve medical emergency services, the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) today delivered five new ambulances to Santiago de Cuba, acquired with resources from the State budget.
The handover ceremony took place at the Emergency and Urgency Medical Area of the Saturnino Lora Clinical-Surgical Hospital, with the presence of Vice Governor Waldis González Peinado and health sector directors in the territory.
Distribution Across Municipalities
The modern vehicles are part of a batch of 50 ambulances recently imported by Minsap and were assigned to the Municipal Health Directorates of Palma Soriano, Contramaestre, Songo-La Maya, and Santiago de Cuba, in accordance with the territorial organization of the Integrated Medical Emergency System.
Dr. Miguel Ángel Díaz Núñez, the sector's head in the province, emphasized that these are high-performance ambulances intended for the care and transport of critically ill patients requiring advanced life support, mechanical ventilation, or other specialized care during transport.
Function as Mobile ICU Extensions
He specified that these vehicles are not used for ordinary transfers but function as a mobile extension of intensive care units, ensuring the continuity of care between hospital institutions with similar levels of complexity.
From a technical standpoint, the ambulances meet international standards for this type of service. They are equipped with basic equipment, facilities for installing other diagnostic and resuscitation devices, adequate autonomy, energy efficiency, and the support of a maintenance system that ensures their operation.
A Significant Boost Amid Challenges
Dr. Yaime Ramos, General Director of Health for the Songo-La Maya municipality, valued the delivery as a significant reinforcement for population care in a context marked by material limitations. She emphasized the commitment of sector institutions and workers to the careful and responsible use of these resources.
Although the incorporation of these vehicles does not fully satisfy the territory's demand, it constitutes a substantial improvement to the Integrated Medical Emergency System in Santiago de Cuba, amidst the complex situation faced by the healthcare sector.
